How we review

Period Tracker Apps is run by the team that makes Hello Phase, the app ranked first on this list. We read the 500 most recent US App Store reviews of Clue and checked every app against its store listings, pricing, privacy label and import options on 26 October 2026, without hands-on testing of each one, and we say plainly where another app is the better fit. There are no affiliate links, and our review method explains how we rank our own app.

Best Clue alternative on Android
  • Needs no account, and logging works with no connection
  • Opens its Plus screen on its own at most three times and sends no promotional notifications
  • Free predictions, top symptom pattern, estimated hormone chart and export

Quick answer. Hello Phase is the best Clue alternative on Android because it needs no account, keeps your log on your phone so logging works offline, opens its Plus screen on its own at most three times and sends no promotional notifications, while its free plan gives you period predictions, your top symptom pattern, an estimated hormone chart and export. drip is the best free open source swap on any phone and the only app here that can import your Clue export file, through a free converter. Natural Cycles is the FDA-cleared pick for birth control, and on iPhone, Apple Health's built-in Cycle Tracking is free.

Why do people leave Clue?

Clue is one of the best rated period apps in the US, with 4.76 stars from 406,487 US App Store ratings and 4.5 stars from 1.5 million Google Play reviews, and it says it updates the app every week. We read the 500 most recent US App Store reviews, written between 22 December 2025 and 24 October 2026, and 285 of them gave Clue three stars or fewer.

Half of those 285 reviews, 143 in all, complained about Clue Plus pop-ups or promotions, with one reviewer writing in October 2026 that "a pop up appears after you click EVERY button in the app". Another 75 said a feature they used had moved behind the paywall, such as the reviewer who wrote that "the clue connect used to be free, but is now locked behind the monthly subscription". Clue's own list of Clue Plus features has grown since January 2025, when an archived copy listed 10 items, and it now also includes cramps predictions, calendar filters, wearable connections and the infotexts that explain what to track.

Smaller groups left over the required account (12 reviews), years of data they felt unable to move (11) and privacy (9). One reviewer wrote that "having to create an account is a dealbreaker", and another that "the only reason I still even have this app is because I can’t transfer any data to another app", which is why this guide ends with how to move your data out of Clue.

Want a big app like Clue? See Flo, although its reviewers report pop-ups too.

Is Clue still a good app?

For many people it is. Clue is based in Berlin under European privacy law, keeps your data on servers in Ireland and Germany, says it will not comply if any authority subpoenas your data, and Digital Health Insights reported that a 2026 Mozilla study scored it 8 out of 10 for privacy. The free plan still predicts your period and fertile days, and the app covers 200+ symptoms. The trade-offs are that you need an account to start, some parts of the app no longer work offline, and its Apple privacy label lists identifiers as "Data Used to Track You", so if the pop-ups are your only complaint and the rest suits you, staying may be easier than moving years of history.

How we picked the apps

We started from the reasons in Clue's own recent reviews, then checked each app's store listing, US price, privacy label and data import options, looked for official action such as an FTC order, and left out apps with no update in 18 months. Hello Phase ranks first on Android for needing no account, working offline, keeping its automatic Plus screens to three and sending no promotional notifications, and drip ranks second as the free open source pick that can take your Clue history with it.

Side by side

Each app card below lists its privacy declaration. For Clue, that is Apple "Data Used to Track You" for identifiers, and Play lists device IDs shared for advertising or marketing.

If the Clue Plus pop-ups or the account are why you are leaving

All three apps below work without an account and keep your log on your phone. drip and Euki have nothing to sell you, and Hello Phase opens its Plus screen on its own only at three set moments, once each, and never in a session where you saved a log. Our private period tracker apps list goes deeper on privacy.

1Hello Phase app icon

Hello Phase

Best Clue alternative on Android
  • $39.99 for optional Plus
  • Android
  • No Play rating yet, 1K+ installs
Privacy declaration
Play "No data shared", some data collected

What stands out

  • Hello Phase is our app, and it needs no account, so there is no email to verify and no password to reset, and logging works with no connection because your log is kept on your phone. Only the optional AI coach goes online.
  • It opens the Plus screen by itself at three set moments at most, each only once, never in a session where you saved a log, and it sends no promotional notifications. Every other Plus screen opens only when you tap.
  • The free plan predicts your next three periods as a date range that narrows as it learns, shows your top symptom pattern each cycle next to an estimated estrogen and progesterone chart, and exports every logged day as a CSV file or a one-page PDF summary.

Watch out for

  • It is Android only, and with 1K+ installs it has no Google Play rating yet.
  • It cannot import a Clue file, so you start from your last period date and usual cycle length, and the full doctor report is part of Plus.
  • The hormone chart is drawn from your cycle length and ovulation day, so it is an estimate and never a lab reading.

See the pricing page, the Hello Phase FAQ and our guide to the best hormone tracker apps, which compares estimated charts with urine tests.

  • Free
  • iPhone, Android
  • 4.02 (59) App Store
  • 4.2 (470) Google Play
Privacy declaration
Apple "Data Not Collected", Play "No data collected"

What stands out

  • drip is free with no account and no ads, both stores show it declaring no data collected, and its open source code on GitLab lets anyone check how it handles your data.
  • Its FAQ points Clue users to the free Clue to drip Converter by Morris Frank, which turns your Clue export into a file you load in drip under Settings, Data, Import Data.

Watch out for

  • The converter is a third-party tool that drip recommends but does not build or run, and it always leaves spotting out of your bleeding days.
  • drip is built around the symptothermal method, which reads temperature and cervical mucus, and its ratings are few.

What stands out

  • Euki is open source, run by an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit and adds a decoy code for moments when someone pressures you to open the app, and CyberInsider reported that Mozilla's 2026 study ranked it the most private period tracker.

Watch out for

  • Your Clue history has to be typed in by hand, since Euki's FAQ says data moves only "by manually inputting it into the new phone".
  • Neither store shows an update since 4 September 2025.

What stands out

  • My Cycle is a rare well-rated iPhone tracker with no paywall at all, and one reviewer summed it up as "free with no ads".

Watch out for

  • Your data depends on iCloud, we could not confirm that it imports from other apps, and a 2026 review titled "Not for irregular periods" is a reason to keep your Clue export until you trust its predictions.

If you want birth control or only use an iPhone

The US Clue app is not birth control, and its App Store listing says "Clue is not intended to be used for contraceptive purposes", even though the FDA cleared a product called Clue Birth Control in February 2021. Natural Cycles is the FDA-cleared option here, and Hello Phase is not on iPhone yet, so Apple Health is our free pick there.

What stands out

  • Cycle Deviation Detection can flag irregular, infrequent or prolonged periods and persistent spotting from six months of history, and Apple Watch Series 8 or later and Ultra add ovulation estimates from wrist temperature.

Watch out for

  • Clue sends only new period and flow entries to Apple Health, not your past data, and Clue's workaround for older entries is to delete them and enter them again.

  • On iPhone it can read your past periods from Apple Health, so you do not start from scratch.

Watch out for

  • It is the most expensive app here, it needs an account, and the Apple Health import does not work on Android.

If you want an app as big as Clue

If you want a large, well-known app like Clue, Flo is the other big name, with 4.74 stars from 2,005,621 US App Store ratings, although its own reviewers raise the same complaint about pop-ups, and our guide to Flo alternatives covers why people leave it.

What stands out

  • Flo's free plan covers period and ovulation predictions, 80+ symptoms and reminders, and Anonymous Mode lets you use it without personal identification.
  • On iPhone it can import past periods from the Health app.

Watch out for

  • A US App Store reviewer wrote in October 2026, "I have to click through at least 7 before being able to use the app properly", and in June 2021 the FTC finalized an order over allegations that Flo shared health data with Facebook and Google.

How do I move my data out of Clue?

Clue lets you download a copy of everything you tracked, and its help center gives these steps.

  1. In Clue, open the More menu, the "=" in the top right corner of your Cycle View, then tap Settings, Download my data and Request data.
  2. Copy the password the app shows you, because you need it to open the file.
  3. Open the email from Clue and tap Download data, since the link expires after 72 hours.
  4. Unzip the file with that password. Inside is your tracked data and your app settings in JSON format.

Where that file can go depends on the app. drip takes it after you run it through the free Clue to drip Converter. On iPhone, Natural Cycles and Flo can read past periods from Apple Health, but Clue sends only new period and flow entries there. Euki only takes what you type in by hand, and we could not confirm that My Cycle, Period Diary: Privacy First or Period Calendar Period Tracker import from other apps.

Hello Phase cannot import a Clue file either. Setup asks when your last period started, how long your cycle usually is and how long your period lasts, so keep your Clue export and your last few start dates, and cancel Clue Plus in the store where you bought it before you delete your Clue account.

Apps we left out and why

TechCrunch reported in July 2026 that Mozilla research found Stardust shared users' health data with an analytics firm, even though its Google Play Data safety section says no data is shared. In May 2023 the FTC announced a proposed order barring Premom from sharing health data for advertising, in 2020 California's attorney general settled with Glow, maker of Eve by Glow, over security flaws, and Kindara has not been updated on the App Store since September 2021.

How to choose

On Android, start with Hello Phase if Clue Plus pop-ups or the account pushed you out, or drip if bringing your Clue history matters most. If your cycles vary a lot, our guide to the best period tracker for irregular periods compares how each app handles uneven cycles, and if you used Clue for PCOS symptoms, see our guide to the best PCOS apps.

Questions people ask

What is the best alternative to Clue?

On Android, Hello Phase is the best Clue alternative, with no account, logging that works offline, no more than three automatic Plus screens, no promotional notifications and a free plan that includes period predictions, symptom patterns, an estimated hormone chart and export. drip is the best free swap on any phone and can import a Clue export, Natural Cycles is the FDA-cleared option for birth control, and Apple Health's Cycle Tracking is the free built-in choice on iPhone.

Why does Clue keep showing pop-ups?

Clue shows promotions for Clue Plus, its paid plan, and half of the 285 low-star US App Store reviews we read from the last ten months complained about them. Clue says a free version will always be available and that Clue Plus pays for building and maintaining the app.

Can I use Clue without an account?

No. Clue has required an account since 2019, and its help center says you need to make a free account to start using Clue. Hello Phase, drip, Euki, My Cycle and Period Diary: Privacy First all work without an account.

How much is Clue Plus?

Clue Plus is $39.99 a year or $9.99 a month in the US App Store, with no lifetime option, and Clue says signing up on its website is the cheapest way. The price varies by region.

How do I export my data from Clue?

In Clue, open the More menu, tap Settings, Download my data and Request data, and copy the password it shows. Clue then emails you a download link that expires after 72 hours, and the file is a password-protected zip of your data in JSON format.

Can I import my Clue data into another app?

drip can, after you convert the file with the free Clue to drip Converter. On iPhone, Natural Cycles and Flo can read past periods from Apple Health, but Clue only sends new entries there. Hello Phase and Euki cannot import a Clue file, so you start from your recent dates.

Does Clue work as birth control?

Not in the US app, whose App Store listing says Clue is not intended to be used for contraceptive purposes, even though the FDA cleared a product called Clue Birth Control in February 2021. Natural Cycles is the FDA-cleared birth control app on this list, and the other trackers here, including Hello Phase, give estimates that should not be used to prevent pregnancy.
